The calotte provided protection for the entire face. The visor was fitted with viewing and ventilation holes. These helmets were usually worn in combination with a chaimail hauberk and a chainmail coif. Helmets of this type remained in use until the first half of the 13th century. This Norman calotte is a replica of medieval originals depicted in manuscripts
